Search Engine Optimization

Helping your clients find you on the information superhighway, A lesson in SEO,

Hi, my name is Bruce Jones and I'm from Naperville IL, I’m a Website Designer, Network Analyst and SEO Specialist. I have been working in the computer industry since before the internet was a household word, back in the days of the 8086 and DOS, 10 Meg. hard drives and 5- 1/4″ floppy diskettes. I started out as a traveling computer consultant then I settled into a network management role for a few major Chicagoland companies.

Press Releases

You should know about the power of free press releases and how they can help get your site listed on page 1 of the search engines.

In my opinion they are the magic bullet of PR.

I could care less if anyone actually clicks on them, I just use them to get backlinks to my websites and blogs which raises them higher up in Google Pagerank.

The magic part is that there are thousands of websites and blogs that pull the RSS feeds from the news sites. In a few weeks Google will have indexed thousands of websites with your info in it.

It takes a bit to write a press release and sometimes some of them even get rejected but you learn from that and move on. The effect does not last forever in a few months they will dop off and let you know it’s time to do another one.

Here’s a few tips to get you started:

  • Always write in the 3′rd party. They, not We.
  • Use the reverse pyramid in the body, ie start with the general terms and end with the exacts.
  • Use a keword rich title and try to get as many keywords in the body as you can.
  • Use keyword rich backlinks when allowed.
  • It is good to get a quote in there to add a personal touch.

Here’s some of the free Press release sites I use:

  • i-newswire.com
  • illinois-press-release.com
  • prleap.com
  • przoom.com
  • prurgent.com
  • theopenpress.com
  • express-press-release.com
  • free-press-release-center.info
  • pr-inside.com
  • 1888pressrelease.com
  • prfree.com
  • pr.com
  • newswiretoday.com
  • pr-gb.com

I have noticed that this year a few of the free press release sites that I had listed previously now have a fee associated with posting releases. I’ll remove these as I find them.

I should mention that most of the free press release sites do also offer an enhanced option where they will let you put extra backlinks to your sites for a fee.

In evaluating the worth of these you should consider a few things:

  • What’s the PR of the press release site?
  • Will they let you place a keyword rich anchor link? or just a link? That matters a lot.
  • Are the back links in the body or just the footer? A link in body of the press release is more powerful.
  • A paid press release is more likely to be picked up by other news sites and RSS feeds.
  • How quick do you want to get to the top? Patience is a virtue some times, but not when you need to get a product in your customers eyes quickly.

Another thing I should add is that when submitting the same press release to many free press release sites, try and edit the title and the keywords in the body of the press release slightly so that Google does not pick it up as duplicate content.

Also, since I do own a web design and business marketing company, if you needs a free press release submitted, I would be happy to help you with that.

Thanks
